How to Stop Comparing Yourself to Other Guys

It’s almost impossible to avoid comparison entirely — you notice the guy who seems effortlessly charming, or the one who apparently never struggles with any of this. Left unchecked, that comparison quietly erodes confidence more than almost anything else.

You’re Comparing Your Inside to Their Outside

You know every insecure thought you’ve ever had about yourself. You know none of theirs. What looks like effortless confidence from the outside is usually just someone further along the same process you’re in the middle of — their doubts are just invisible to you, the way yours are invisible to everyone else.

Comparison Points You at the Wrong Target

The guy you’re comparing yourself to isn’t the actual standard that matters — your own progress is. A more useful question than “am I as good as him?” is “am I better at this than I was six months ago?” That’s a comparison you can actually act on.

Redirect the Energy Into Your Own Reps

Comparison tends to eat time and energy that would be better spent on your own practice — the conversations, the approaches, the small daily wins that actually move the needle. Every minute spent measuring yourself against someone else is a minute not spent building your own track record.

The guys who seem to have moved past comparison mostly haven’t stopped noticing other people — they’ve just gotten more interested in their own progress than in the scoreboard.
